Solar panels are mounted to the roof converting sunlight into DC power. Power then travels through a cable down to an inverter which then changes DC power into AC power. In Queensland with a net feed in tariff, power is used in the house first with any excess power not used is supplied to the grid.

Solar feed-in tariff is a credit you receive for excess solar energy that your system generates and exports back to the grid. Feed-in tariffs are typically between 9 – 15c per kilowatt-hour (kWh) but the rates vary in each state and are ultimately determined by your electricity retailer.

GETTING THE MOST OUT OF YOUR SOLAR PANELS

  • Solar panels should be faced to close to north as possible to a right angle
  • The area around the panels is not shaded by trees.
  • Try and limit your power usage during the day to maximise feeding in of power to the grid at a higher rate
  • Regular maintenance of the panels, clearing of dust and leaves is recommend as this creates shading on the panels which will reduce output.

A site inspection from Brad will determine the suitability of your house for solar panels. He will take into account your roof area, the direction your roof is facing, determining problems from shade from trees. Brad will look at these areas to make sure that solar panels are correctly placed to maximise efficiency.
